In 1975 Paul studied in Indonesia at The Academy of Fine Arts, ASRI, Jogjakarta, Java.

Paul's work is an unusual confluence of Traditional Asian method and contemporary water colour technique.

His method is derived from the practice of taking shorthand sketches intended as the source material for traditional wax resistant batik designs.

Paul has applied this method to watercolour, pen and ink.
