Main Street Gallery

is home to some of Australia's most original contemporary artists.

Its philosophy is simple: to offer patrons the very best in fine art, while developing the careers of those artists in its care.

Eclecticism is our stated object.

Modern landscape, figurative and abstract painting, prints, photography, contemporary Aboriginal works and installations, all these art forms feature in our exhibition calendar.

Located in a rainforest setting under the Poets Cafe in Montville, the gallery welcomes you to view its current exhibition, as well as explore the stock room at your leisure.

Gallery Director

International author and art expert, James Cowan has a deep knowledge of contemporary art.

He has managed the Warlayirti Aboriginal art cooperative in the Tanami Desert, where he was able to bring to world attention the work of a number of its major artists.

He has bought and sold art ranging from late Renaissance paintings, Greek icons and the art of modern Argentine artists, as well as Aboriginal art.

He has also contributed his expertise to indigenous art movements in various parts of the world, and conducted surveys into art practice for the Federal Government.

He was a founding member of QAIMEA, Queensland’s peak body representing Aboriginal artists in that state.

He has published a number of art monographs.

His fiction and non-fiction books are published in over twenty languages throughout the world.
