Jan Kennedy...
The inspiration for my paintings comes almost exclusively from the environment. When I paint, a world begins to emerge where some of the hidden wonders of nature can be seen.
I prefer the medium of watercolour because I feel it best expresses subjects like the light that shines through foliage, clouds that speak of rain or details found in shadow or sunshine.
My keen interest in nature pushes me towards the intricate and delicate forest world. For instance, I have found that by looking closely around the gigantic trees in our wonderful rainforests, it is possible to see a world where rocks, vines, sunlight and leaf-litter provide balance and structure to create a new and exciting stimulus. My recent paintings expand on this theme.
